About the Photograph

At 2am on June 10th, 2021, my dad and I woke up to head for the boat launch in Kittery, Maine. By sunrise, we were several miles offshore and in position for Boon Island Light to line up in between us and the sun. However, this was no ordinary morning - an annular eclipse was going on and we were in a place where part of the spectacle would be visible early in the morning. While low clouds blocked my initial idea of capturing a silhouette of the sun directly behind the lighthouse, I was still able to make this image during the moon's peak moment of transit.
